In the social infrastructure of western Romania, the Volunteer Fortress Organization has assumed since its establishment in 2014 the role of catalyst of positive, constructive energy in the community. In an active and dynamic economic environment, in partnership with local and regional public administrations, religious cults and managing to activate individuals interested in getting involved in community projects the Volunteer Fortress Organization has validated itself as one of the main mobilizing factors in the West Development Region.
The Volunteer Fortress is a non-profit organization based in Arad. In 2024 it celebrated a decade of existence and activities for community development. It has, since its foundation, a rich portfolio of activities in the social, educational, humanitarian and medical fields.
For its activities for the benefit of the community, the Volunteer Fortress Organization was recognized at the Romanian Volunteering Gala with distinctions that attest its importance at local and national level. The Organization’s portfolio includes humanitarian campaigns during the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, sending aid to Ukraine for the civilian population and organizing accommodation and services for Ukrainian refugees in western Romania; occupational therapy with children at social risk, with young people and adults with physical or mental disabilities; non-formal education activities for children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds; information campaigns on social emergencies; domestic violence; rare diseases; drug abuse; discrimination; international migration.
Supported by a team of 165 active volunteers from the local level, the Volunteer Fortress generated in 2018 the most consistent project in the western area of Romania in the field of public health managed by a non-governmental organization: the modernization of the pediatric wards of Arad County Emergency Hospital, the Neonatology Department, Radiology Department and the Infectious Diseases Department! Only in these projects the Organization invested over 130 000 euros per department. The Volunteer Fortress Organization has involved in this campaign national and European personalities from sports, culture, business and administration, managing to achieve a wide civic participation for the development of the mentioned objectives. They are today some of the most modern hospital wards in Romania in terms of functionality, equipment and aesthetics.
In all our projects we promote the European values of social responsibility, volunteering in the community, human solidarity, support for people in need and disadvantaged environments. We encourage the participation of young people and the business environment in our projects and we have managed to gain credibility over the 10 years of existence through the concrete results we have achieved in a short time, but also through the scope of the projects initiated with a rich experience in modernizing and developing the fundamental institutions of Romanian society.
Since 2020, the Volunteer Fortress Organization has also been involved in the rebuilding of pre-school and school education units in underprivileged areas where we have managed to give a chance to education and reduce school dropout.
Our mission is to support the community and its people. This is what we have been working towards since 2014 and we want to expand our partnerships so that we can best serve the public interest.
