Alpin (formerly Alpin57Lux) is one of Romania’s largest ice cream producers. Founded in 1994 as a family business by Ioan Istrate, the company has grown significantly, producing over 80 tonnes of ice cream daily.
In 2016, Alpin57Lux became part of the Food Union Group, a larger international food & dairy company. More recently (2024), Foo d Union Europe was acquired by PAG Private Equity, making it the majority owner.
Products & Brands
- Alpin produces more than 100 SKUs (stock keeping units) of ice cream, under multiple brands.
- Some of its better-known ice cream brands include Transalpina, Fulg de Nea, Polar Autentic, Sandwich, plus a children’s line (e.g. Tedi) and no‐added‐sugar options (e.g. Suplette). Food
- Because ice cream is a seasonal product in Romania, Alpin also produces frozen pastries, bakery products, and other frozen foods.
Operations & Capabilities
- The main production facility is located in Sebeș, Alba County, on a modern industrial platform.
- It uses modern, high-standard equipment and adheres to food safety and quality management systems (e.g. IFS Food, ISO 22000:2018, BSCI) in its production and storage facilities.
- The company has its own logistics and distribution network, including a fleet of over 250 refrigerated vehicles.
- Its distribution is national, covering both urban and rural areas in Romania.
